The Scottish election in May 2016 creates an opportunity for every political party to commit to creating a more equal Scotland within a more equal world. In October, Oxfam outlined our policy priorities for the Scottish Parliament both now and beyond the election – read our policy paper.

We know the Scottish Parliament can’t do everything, but it can do more.

In the run-up to these important elections, we’re giving you the chance to chat to local political candidates about the issues that matter to you.

Oxfam is holding Candidate Cafe events in each of Scotland’s eight electoral regions. One candidate from each of the five parties currently represented at the Scottish Parliament will be there chatting to members of the public.

Dumfries, Sat 5 March 12:30-2:30pm, Oasis Youth Centre
Dundee, Sat 19 March 12:30-2:30pm, Discovery Point
Edinburgh, Wed 9 March 5:30-7:30pm, St Andrews And St George's West
Glasgow, Tue 15 March 5:30-7:30pm, Botanic Suite, Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor
Inverness, Sat 27 February 12:30-2:30pm, Old Church Hall, Academy Street
Irvine, Mon 14 March 5:30-7:30pm, Volunteer Rooms
Motherwell, Mon 29 February 5:30-7:30pm, Glo Bookshop
Stirling, Mon 21 March 5:30-7:30pm, Council Chambers

Oxfam Scotland is proud to host these events in partnership with Stop Climate Chaos Scotland (SCCS).

As a charity, Oxfam is strictly non-party political. By registering to attend this event, participants agree to act with respect towards all candidates and fellow members of the public.

Please note: the format is designed to encourage conversations between members of the public and candidates from the five parties currently represented in the Scottish Parliament. The political candidates will not be debating their respective policy positions with each other.

Parties invited to send a candidate to these events are: Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Greens, Scottish Labour, Scottish Liberal Democrats and Scottish National Party (the five parties currently represented at the Scottish Parliament). A list of other political parties and candidates standing in the electoral region will be on display at the events and these candidates will have the opportunity to provide materials which will be made available at the events.
